The wait is almost over! The Punta Cana Poker Classic sponsored by YaPoker, to be played for the sixth consecutive time at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in front of the idyllic Caribbean beaches of Punta Cana , from November 3rd to the 8th of the month, is almost upon us!
And, the CodigoPoker team, because it couldn’t be any other way, will be covering the event to bring you closer to this festival via LIVEBLOG. As if this were not enough, the final table will be broadcasted via LIVESTREAM so that you don’t miss the actions of a classic that just won’t stop growing.
The beginnings of the Punta Cana Poker Classic go all the way back to 2009, when a group of events and tournaments organizers, with more than 25 years experience in the industry, were enjoying a quiet vacation at the colorful beaches of Punta Cana, and suddenly, the brilliant idea struck to combine poker tournaments with exotic destinations around Latin America, mostly for recreational players, and thus the Latin Series of Poker was born.
The following year, the first event for the LSOP took place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino: the 2010 Punta Cana Poker Classic. The main event gathered together 203 contestants, who payed an initial buy in worth $1,100 dollars, creating a prize pool of $203,000, over twice the amount that was guaranteed. Peter Cross was crowned the first great champion and took $63,000 prize.
After the first date’s grand success, in 2011, the organization raised the guaranteed amount to 500,000 dollars, adding parallel events to the mix. Once more, the title for this Grand Event, went to the Northern Continent, thanks to Demo Kiriopoulos surpassing a 415 player field to take home a check for $136,949 dollars.
Counting on the presence of Humberto Brenes , the recently deceased and very special Dave «Devilfish» Ulliott and the beautiful, Tatjana Pasalic made of this event, a guaranteed international luxury event.
In 2012, the Punta Cana Poker Classic, for the third time in a row, surpassed its guaranteed amount thanks to the 380 players who payed a $1,500 inscription to make the prize pool go up to $552,900. Mattew Weber was crowned the third great champion, and added 135,475 dollars to his bank account.
2013 had 490 entrants and a prize pool worth $712,950 dollars. On this opportunity, the glory, the trophy and the $171,100 meant for the first placing player, went to Guillermo Menona Olvera , who defeated Leonel Otazo , in a heads to head, making him the runner-up for the tournament.
The last season would go down in history too, and was packed with action at a colossal final table, sitting, among others, Farid Jattin , Nacho Barbero , Germán Poncio and Arturo Noceda . However, none of them managed to hold on to their chips, since the champion was Ari Engel , who took $177,045 courtesy of the largest pot in the history of the event which surpassed the crazy amount of $737,000.
The 2014 Punta Cana Poker Classic held more than eleven parallel events. Among them, the $550 Second Chance won by Guillermo Echeverría ; the $3,000 High Roller, which went to Oscar Alache and there was even an Open Face Chinese Poker event, which went straight to the hands of Venezuelan, Jesús Acosta .
After all of this, are you still having doubts? It really is worth your while! Check out the promotional packages and you might even get two weeks of poker and vacations in the Dominican Republic. Recommended byBolivar Palacios .
