Great changes to the Global Poker Index top 10 ranking happened last week after the High Roller events for the 12th EPT Barcelona. Nick Petrangelo  , who jumped to the main spots in both the general and anual ranking, benefited from the absence of these monster poker players during  the last days of the Main Event and parallel events with a lower buy-in. The brand new winner of a bracelet in the last World Series Of Poker was positioned among the best 70 players of the main event, only  to go for the kill at the 10k High Roller, positioning himself number three in the ranking.

The winner of the event,  Mustapha Kanit , used his points to get back in the top 10 ranking for the last three years (the GPI averages results for the last 36 months) and went up over 40 places in the Player Of The Year ranking.

The players that exhibited the most growth during the 12th EPT Barcelona series were, Steven Warburton , who took second place at the Main Event; Niklas Astedt  , who had 4 payouts, including coming in fourth at the 10k High Roller; and Arie Miller  , who reached two final tables and had one payout.

It is surprising to see Doug Polk   and bracelet winner, Steven Gross  on the losing end of the stick. And what about John Juanda ? The great Barcelona champion barely played in the last 3 years, reason why he is placed number 700 on the general ranking, and he still hasn’t made into the best 1000 players of the year.

Among Latin players, the ones to move up were Mario Lopez (ranked 3rd at the POY chart, and number 10 on the general ranking), and Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari (who was ranked 2nd and 4th, respectively), thanks to his deepruns at the main event, together with Farid Jattin (placed number 3 in the general ranking, and number 15 in the POY) who won both a title and spot in the podium at parallel events.

September will be marked by what happens at the WPT Borgata Open and the LAPT Punta Del Este. We will be watching!
